Look at this clip, my fellow young Malaysians.
This young lady is never going to get a job at NST (wouldn't you agree, dear FNK?). Not only is it a bad script, her delivery makes you cringe. Who's the scriptwriter, the director? Can't we do better than this, please? Saya Gen Z, rasa embracing lah.
Okay okay, bros and sis Gen Zack or Gen Zee, jokes and sarcasms aside, can we not embarrass ourselves with this kind of stand-upper or the other day's stand-up "Tangkap Azam Baki" protest? More like stand-up comedy yang tak berapa jadi. Malu mak bapak dan generasi kita. Don't think that you are heroes just because Malaysiakini reported you as heroes. Malaysiakini would spin to arrest their dwindling viewership or maybe because they have an agenda against Anwar Ibrahim, our PMX. Maybe because Fahmi Fadzil, the minister for Comms, did not approve any funds for them.
Believe me, many of us think you guys are being used by certain quarters ( I hope it is just by the likes of RR and not the Corporate Mafia). And what did you achieve other than mimic what western activists USED to do against their authorities decades ago.
Yes, even those western activists have stopped such antics because they are lame, ineffective and embarrassing.
Remember:
"When the axe handle was a branch of our own, we have come to the destruction of our home".
It is obvious that this group of youths calling themselves Mandiri: who want to empower young leaders, encourage democratic participation and foster progressive ideas, has been positioned (by someone we all know) to embarrass PMX by calling for Azam Baki's arrest at a forum where the MACC chief commissioner was addressing.
Look at the audience in the other video clip, did anyone stand up to applaud? None did. And when the security escorted the lond stand-up protestor and his two comrades out, did anyone in the audience protest? No. Instead, the audience must be wondering who these 'budak hingusan' were!
Sorry, guys, but my buddies back in Melaka also think you are just 'anai-anai' who have been given 'gula-gula' to do someone's bidding. I would have defended you but then again I know better.
The explanation offered by Wong Kukui, the coodinator for Mandiri, hardly helped us understand what their objective is.
What is obvious is they are not supportive of the MACC, the graft fighters, and Azam Baki. They are not supportive of the PMX's fight against corruption.
Are they, then, supporters of Albert Tei and Victor Chin?
I don't have to tell the three stand-uppers and Mandiri that they were in violation of the law under the Penal Code (Act 574), Section 21 of the Penal Code and the Minor Offences Act 1955 (Act 336). But I guess they'd tell me everyone runs the red light, anyways, so what's the big deal, huh?
Back in the 80s, western activists loved to smuggle themselves into forum halls and disrupt the flow of things by shouting slogans and brandishing placards and banners. After a while, though, these activists realised that such antics were counter productive so they stopped them.
If we want to develop a generation of knowledgeable, involved and competitive youth , imitate what those western activists do these days.
Come on, my fellow young Malaysians. Stop embarrassing ourselves. Let's be more creative, more constructive. YB Fahmi does not bar us from using social media, so use the various platforms to reach out to the authorities, the media and our networks. Organise ourselves better, organise forums, launch a thousand podcasts.
We are not a perfect nation but we have a PM who is fighting corruption (read up on our latest corruption ranking) and he needs everybody's help, not just the MACC and Azam's.
Don't let yourselves be used as political mules by those who have an axe to grind with the PMX or Azam Baki and the MACC. Or, worse, those who want to protect the corrupt.
Do better, be a lot better wahai anak-anak muda...
